Flowers in Holborn to brighten the short days

We keep a beautiful stock of flowers in Holborn, and specialise in speedy same day delivery in the local areas of Holborn, Bloomsbury, Covent Garden, the City and the West End.
It always amazes me how different colours of the flowers look in the changing seasons – orange roses become almost luminous in autumn, the pinks don’t look as soft as in summer, the browns and golds match the falling leaves of nature and the golden, autumn sunshine.

We’ve had the usual run of interesting customers lately, including a lady whose wedding flowers we supplied in the early 99’s! She hadn’t been back since, and was delighted to find us still in Sicilian Avenue after all these years.
Then there was the guy secretly in love with a girl at work, a bouquet for a film set, plus birthday bouquets, thank you bouquets and new baby gifts.

Call me old-fashioned, but I don’t like the Christmas window display to go in too early. But I suppose it’s about time, with Christmas office parties starting at the beginning of December.

Holly, mistletoe, blue pine, cones and cinnamon smells so good. We like to keep our displays as natural as possible. Luckily, blue pine, ilex and cones are very log-lasting, so you can buy well before Christmas.

We are very excited to be appearing at The Chelsea Flower Show next year, and we’re busy designing a beautiful Shakespeare garden for our booth, which is for Gerit Quealy’s amazing book, Botanical Shakespeare. It covers all the plants, trees, herba and flowers in Shakespeare’s works.

candelabra at Penshurst Place
It’s important to spend time choosing the right flowers for your wedding day – not only choice & colours for the flowers, but also the format.
We made these candelabra displays for a wedding at the stunning Baron’s Hall at Penshurst Place in Kent at the weekend. The ceiling is high, & the hall is sparsely, but beautifully decorated. The 4ft high candelabra held their own, & looked increasingly more beautiful as night fell, & the candlelight became more prominent.
We used white clematis, jasmine, roses, phalaenopsis orchids, sweet william, berried ivy, trailing ivy & salal.
Make sure your florist visits the venue before the event. They can advise on which colours not only suit the venue, but also check the natural light, & advise accordingly.
If you have a budget to work with, tell the florist, & they will advise on how best to use the money. Most florists have a wealth of experience you can draw upon.

How to choose the right flowers for your wedding

choose the right flowers

On such an important day, it’s vital that you get the right choice of flowers. Here are my top tips:
1. Look through books & mags, & start making a scrapbook of pics, material swatches, favourite flowers.
2. consider your dress. if plain, add flowers with texture. If it’s a wide dress, don’t have a narrow bouquet.
3. think about the colours you’re introducing by way of bridesmaid’s dresses, waistcoats etc.
4. consider the colour scheme at your venue.
5. work out a budget for flowers.
6. Go & see a good florist. They will talk you through what would suit you, what is seasonal & at its best for your special day, how to best use your budget. They will show you photos, or make mock ups for you.
Florists are passionate about flowers – make the most of their expertise!
