We had a lovely customer at lunchtime today. We could feel her joy at the prospect of meeting an old friend whom she hadn’t seen for seventeen years. I told her the story of my visit to Ireland a few years back, with the intention of surprising my friend, Ger, whom I hadn’t seen for many years. A week beforehand, I decided I’d phone & let her know I was coming – only to be told that she would be on holiday in Turkey for the whole duration. But with true Irish hospitality, she left the keys to her house with her brother, & we stayed there for a few days.
The lunchtime customer picked her flowers carefully – a beautiful bunch of purple & white lisianthus, stems left long, & simply wrapped. They reminded her of her friend. I hope they had a lovely time.
