Funeral flowers are very important for the close family. Most people have a favourite flower, & it’s great when they are in season when requested. At one time, the flowers were usually rather sombre, but nowadays, requests tend to reflect the celebration of a life.
This week, I had a request for forget-me-not buttonholes for a memorial service. I had little notice, but fortunately, my garden was covered in forget-me-nots. A week later, & they would have finished blooming for this year.
Forget-me-nots grow rather like wild flowers, & it was quite hard to harvest the large amount I needed. It was then a long task to tidy them up, & make them into buttonholes. I used a tiny sprig of limonium in each buttonhole to hold them in place – very pretty. The photo shows a cluster of 10 buttonholes.
